Shooting Drill: Dot Torture

We filmed one of our favorite shooting drills
The Dot Torture Drill * Dot 1 Draw and fire one string of 5 rounds for best group. One hole if possible, total 5 rounds. * Dot 2 Draw and fire 1 shot, holster and repeat X4, total 5 rounds. * Dots 3 & 4 Draw and fire 1 shot on #3, then 1 shot on #4, holster and repeat X3, total 8 rounds. * Dot 5 Draw and fire string of 5 rounds, strong hand only, total 5 rounds. * Dots 6 & 7 Draw and fire 2 shots on #6, then 2 on #7, holster, repeat X4, total 16 rounds. * Dot 8 From ready or retention, fire five shots, weak hand only, total 5 rounds. * Dots 9 & 10 Draw and fire 1 shot on #9, speed reload, fire 1 shot on #10, holster and repeat X3, total 6 rounds.

We also shoot this drill with rifles

We have been shooting this drill for well over a year now and it's one of our favorites to keep skills sharp with 5 rounds. The Dot Torture drill is shot with a single 8.5x11 inch sheet of paper, and can be shot at most public shooting ranges

Shooting Drill: 12345

We tried out a new shooting drill
Three targets
Start on one side and shoot one round, then move to next target and shoot twice, then the third target with three rounds, then back to the second (middle) target for four shots, then end with the first target with five shots

An interesting drill that seems simple, but makes your mind think about which target and the number of shots to take

We also ran this drill with pistols

We think we'll add it to our training sessions again for a while to see how we like it over time

Blade-Tech Training Barrel

We had a chance to test out and photograph this M&P 9/40 Training Barrel from Blade-Tech and it is just as effective and works as well as we expected it to. Benefits of the Blade-Tech Training barrel over a solid plastic / rubber training pistol for us include; Size, Function and Versatility. Since the Blade-Tech training system consists of simply the yellow plastic barrel, it is very portable, and lends its self to staying in the range bag all the time, so we always have them available. The training barrel protrudes just a bit from the barrel so others can see the guns with them are in-operable. The Bladetech Barrel allows for complete trigger manipulation which is a big plus over the fixed triggers on most rubber / plastic training guns. The ability to swap out the barrel on your actual carry gun is another big plus for us. We have certain modifications made to the pistol like lights and lasers, which do not always fit on plastic / rubber training pistols. The biggest issue for Smith & Wesson M&P owners is the removable backstrap. Training pistols are almost always made in the medium size, so if you normally shoot with small or large, you would be out of luck. Replacing a barrel for training offers the versatility. of practice with your gun and accessories. Blade-Tech Training barrel costs well under $20 shipped to your door which makes it one of the best investments a shooter can make in their own skills development in our opinion.

Do-It-Yourself: Mini Rolls of Tape for Targets

This is something I came up with while re-rolling duct tape to a smaller roll for survival / first aid kits.
http://www.gear-reviews.net/Articles....

After trying other types of tape I came across this handy use for a re-rolled mini roll of masking tape.. taping targets at the range

Shoot in shooting matches or at the range for practice it is easy to be thinking of shooting and walk down range to check targets before grabbing the tape to patch holes in the cardboard / paper targets.

So attaching this mini roll of masking tape to gear saves walking and time
