Supplemental CCW classes

I just spent 5 hours at a CCW class (the lecture part) the class shoots on Sunday

An interesting class, 16 students and 3 of us just there to watch and learn (two of us already have a CCW and one lady was there with her husband to see the class, not for a permit)

Students were a mix of girls and guys, all levels of experience

Lots of interesting questions, as always being there brought the seriousness of CCW to the front of my mind (where it belongs)

This was the third class with this instructor (a friend of mine) but I take classes whenever I can get an invite so I see as many teaching styles and meet as many instructors as I can

so my question is.. does anyone else take additional CCW instruction to keep their legal knowledge and mental skills sharp on the subject?

If you don't, I highly suggest attending at least one CCW class each year (or more if you can swing it) I get a lot out of them, and it's almost always cheaper (or free) to just attend and watch

BattleLab vs. Blackhawk, Escape & Evasion Bags

Here are two BattleLab Escape & Evasion Bags side by side to compare and contrast. The BattleLab bag in tan seems to be made of better material and looks like it will last longer with heavy use. The Blackhawk version is a bit less sturdy and seems to be sewn together with less skill. Little things like the strap being shorter, lack of full velcro strips on pocket flaps, thickness of materials used all make the Blackhawk bag (in black) less value and less durable with heavy use

Satellite Antenna Bag as a SBR Low Profile Carry Option

Using this Sat Com Bag for an AR15 SBR an alternative low profile carry option. We bought a Sat Com Bag (Satellite Communication Bag) from an online supplier. It is a mid-quality bag. Made overseas, with mid-quality materials. It is designed to hold a fold up satellite antenna and a length of cable. So the shape and function of the bag are designed around that piece of gear. This bag is 20 inches long and 6 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The bag lends it's self to a non-standard rifle bag. If you are concerned about people seeing you carry an obvious rifle bag, this Sat Com Bag can be an alternative carry bag for an AR15 style rifle. The easy to open top flap that offers full access to the bag works well for this use. Once opened, the broken down AR15 SBR is ready to be removed easily. The shoulder strap has a buckle so that you do not need to fight the strap while getting things from the bag. The AR15 short barrel (10.5 inch) upper fits easily in the main compartment of the 20 inch long bag

Clip vs. Magazine - There is a difference

Gun magazines and clips are NOT the same thing.

A major annoyance to many gun owners who care to speak accurately about firearms is when people say 'clip' when they are talking about a firearm's 'magazine'.

We took a few moments to make this short video to help illustrate the differences between a 10 round AR15 'stripper clip' vs the AR15 30 round 'box magazine'

Ignore this one if you don't care, or if you already know the difference, but we hope those interested in speaking accurately about guns will appreciate this quick video explanation

SWR Spectre Multi Caliber Suppressor

These SWR suppressors are rated for multiple calibers including the 22lr (in full auto or semi automatic), 5.7mm, 17HMR and 22WMR. This is a heavy duty suppressor with a bit more weight than other brands. The SWR Spectre unique end cap is designed to allow easy removal of the endcap for cleaning and repair. We took these pictures with the SWR Spectre on a Walther P22. The one inch diameter of the Spectre allows the standard iron sights of the P-22 to be used with the suppressor in place. The SWR Spectre comes with; Nylon belt pouch, an endcap removal tool, manual and SWR logo patch.

Steyr AUG and MSAR STG-556

We had the chance to put these two rifles side by side to see how similar and different they are the standard Steyr AUG P from the 1980s and the MSAR STG-556 made in the USA currently. The MSAR STG-556 is an AUG A1 clone manufactured by Microtech Small Arms Research Inc. The two rifles look very similar but their parts are not interchangeable. The major differences are the sights and the additional parts on the STG-556. The Steyr AUG has a built in optic / carry handle, where the STG-556 has an accessory rail (MIL-STD-1913 rail). The STG-556 has some additional parts including a forward assist and a bolt hold-open device like the AR15/M16.
